Cynthia A. "Cindy" Gierhart is a Washington, D.C., litigation attorney who is experienced in a variety of matters, including media, entertainment, trademark, and consumer protection and regulatory compliance.
Ms. Gierhart brings the perspective of a former journalist and book editor to her work, advising newspapers and broadcast stations on state and federal open records laws, defamation and other First Amendment issues. Ms. Gierhart also negotiates agreements for companies and individuals involved in documentary film production and book publishing.
In addition, Ms. Gierhart has engaged extensively in trademark litigation and participated in domestic trademark prosecution and global trademark clearances.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Gierhart clerked for the Honorable John Ramsey Johnson in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She also worked as a legal fellow with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and at the American Association for Justice.
While in law school, Ms. Gierhart served as editor-in-chief of the American University International Law Review. She also worked as a writing fellow for the university's legal writing program, assisting first-year students with their writing.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Gierhart worked for eight years as a newspaper reporter and editor, project manager in book publishing and freelance book editor.
