Brian D. Nevel is a litigation attorney based in Holland & Knight's Chicago office. Mr. Nevel focuses his practice on creditors' rights and financial services litigation, representing lenders, mortgage servicers, receivers, investors and financial institutions in complex commercial and consumer disputes. He advises clients in the banking, lending and real estate industries on litigation strategy, risk management, regulatory compliance and efficient dispute resolution.
Mr. Nevel is experienced in matters relating to contested foreclosures, residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), receiverships, evictions, mechanics' liens, title curative, post-judgment remedies, class action defense and complex commercial litigation. He regularly handles claims involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (ICFA), as well as related federal and state consumer protection laws. Mr. Nevel's practice encompasses all phases of litigation, including investigations, motion practice, discovery management, expert coordination, settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, appeals and courtroom advocacy in state and federal courts.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Nevel represented institutional clients in private practice, managing high-volume portfolios and high-stakes disputes from inception through resolution. He has significant experience leading teams, counseling clients through operational challenges and delivering practical strategies aligned with business objectives.
