Overview

John P. O'Neill is the practice group leader of the Boston Real Estate Practice. He regularly counsels institutional and international investors as well as their advisors in negotiating agreements across the capital stack, including financing and joint venture investments.

Mr. O'Neill is also co-leader of Holland & Knight's nationally recognized Multifamily Housing Team, which was honored by GlobeSt. in 2025 as Influencers in Multifamily Real Estate. He represents investors and their advisors on all aspects of multifamily transactions, including conventional and tax-advantaged structures.

Mr. O'Neill's work spans portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, debt and equity financings, and negotiating joint venture agreements. He regularly structures complex financing arrangements and counsels clients on strategies for modifications, workouts, defeasances and dispositions of existing investments. Mr. O'Neill's multifamily practice emphasizes solutions that optimize returns, mitigate risk and address market challenges across affordable, workforce and market-rate housing.
