Overview

J. Pieratt is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Austin office. Mr. Pieratt focuses on representing national and regional investors, businesses, developers and lenders acquire, develop, finance, sell and lease commercial real property located in Texas and throughout the U.S.

Mr. Pieratt is also licensed as a real estate broker by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC).

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Pieratt has an active pro bono practice. He has represented the Houston Food Bank, Moss Pieratt Foundation, Friends of the ABC Kite Fest, ReGroup Foundation and other entities in a variety of pro bono matters. He has also represented several "Debtors' Prison" cases through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) and previously staffed its monthly clinics in Northeast Austin.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Pieratt was a partner at a global law firm in its Austin office.

Before beginning his legal career, Mr. Pieratt served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Irma Carrillo Ramirez, as well as the Honorable A. Joe Fish, both of the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Texas.

While in law school, Mr. Pieratt was the associate managing editor of the International Law Review Association.

  • Represented a multinational corporation and technology company in all phases of the company's $1 billion headquarters in Austin, Texas
  • Represented a Chinese public company with its entry into the U.S., including various real estate, corporate, employment, tax and legislative matters
  • Represented a real estate fund manager as an equity investor in projects located in Texas and throughout the U.S.
  • Represented an American multinational private equity, alternative asset management and financial services firm in the disposition of hotel properties located throughout the U.S.
  • Represented an American ride-hailing company in the leasing of operations, retail and office sites located throughout the U.S.
  • Represented an American real estate investment management firm in the acquisition of storage, senior/assisted living, student housing and office projects throughout the U.S.
  • Represented a multinational oil and gas company in the disposition and leasing of raw land and income producing properties in Texas and Wyoming, including the disposition of the company's U.S. headquarters in Houston
  • Represented the landlord of a 1.05 million-square-foot Class A office tower in downtown Houston
  • Represented the country's largest real estate management firm in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of multifamily residential developments throughout the U.S.
  • Represented an American multinational technology company in the disposition and leasing of the company's campus located in Austin, Texas
  • Represented a national real estate developer in the acquisition and development of mixed-use, retail and multifamily developments in Texas, Arizona and Florida
  • Represented a professional baseball team in connection with the retail leasing of mixed-use development surrounding the team's home stadium
  • Represented a real estate investment trust (REIT) in the acquisition of a 1.1 million-square-foot office complex located in Austin, Texas
  • Represented an S&P 500 oil, natural gas and geothermal drilling contractor in the acquisition and disposition of saltwater disposal wells, raw land and income producing properties located throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and North Dakota
  • Represented one of the largest energy companies based in the Permian Basin in the acquisition and disposition of various real estate holdings, primarily located in West Texas
  • Represented a REIT in the leasing of approximately 30 Class A and Class B office buildings located throughout Texas
