Minerva Pinto

Minerva Pinto is a Boston-based attorney in Holland & Knight's Global Wealth and Family Office Practice Group and a member of the Art Law Team. Ms. Pinto focuses on the drafting and implementation of tax-efficient, multigenerational wealth planning strategies tailored to the particular objectives and dynamics of each family. In addition to working with high-net-worth individuals and their advisors, she leverages her prior trust company experience to advise professional and corporate fiduciaries on complex administration, drafting, fiduciary income tax and generation-skipping transfer tax matters.

Ms. Pinto has significant experience at the intersection of wealth planning and the global art market. She works with collectors and families throughout the life cycle of their collections, from acquisition and ownership through disposition, addressing the distinct challenges that arise at each stage. She tailors trust and estate plans to account for art and collectible holdings and counsels collectors on charitable giving strategies, including promised gifts, donor-advised funds and private foundations.

Ms. Pinto regularly handles transactional matters involving collectibles, including private sales, auction and consignment agreements, exhibition loans and art-backed lending. As a tax practitioner, she is attuned to the nuanced income tax and sales and use tax implications of transferring collectible property and is equally conversant in the broader regulatory and practical considerations that accompany these transactions, including anti-money laundering obligations, insurance, conservation and the logistical complexities of moving, storing and caring for sensitive and high-value objects. Her experience spans a wide range of collectible categories, including fine art and antiquities, jewelry, musical instruments, classic vehicles and supercars, wine and spirits, rare books, natural history specimens, memorabilia and other passion assets. Ms. Pinto works closely with family offices, accountants and wealth advisors to ensure that a client's collection strategy and broader wealth transfer objectives remain aligned.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Pinto worked in the private wealth management division of a large multinational bank. In that role, she developed and administered trust and estate plans for high-net-worth clients and served as a resource for collectors and advisors across the globe on a full range of art and collectible planning topics. This institutional background informs her current practice and gives her fluency with the operational realities of trust and estate administration and the oversight of special assets.

While in law school, Ms. Pinto served as editor-in-chief of the Temple Political & Civil Rights Law Review and was active in several public interest initiatives, including the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and Wills for Heroes. She remains committed to pro bono legal service and serves on the board of several nonprofit organizations.
