Overview
Kyle Wingfield is a tax attorney in Holland & Knight's Richmond office. Mr. Wingfield focuses on a variety of state and local tax matters.
Mr. Wingfield advises publicly traded companies, privately held businesses and their owners on federal, state and local tax matters. He regularly advises clients on complex transactional matters, planning opportunities and tax controversies involving income taxes, sales and use taxes, and business license and personal property taxes.
Mr. Wingfield also represents clients in complex tax disputes, audits, administrative appeals and litigation in federal and state courts, particularly in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and North Carolina.
In addition, Mr. Wingfield has a significant background in tax planning for mergers and acquisitions (M&A), providing due diligence and structuring advice on complex transactions.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Wingfield was an attorney at a full-service law firm, where he served as chair of the tax controversy and state and local tax sections. Previously, he was an attorney with one of the Big Four accounting firms, where he assisted in the preparation of federal and tax returns and provisions for Fortune 500 companies.

- Represented a home improvement business in its sale to a leading provider of windows, roofing, siding, gutters and bath products and a portfolio company of funds
- Represented a family-owned operating group based in Charleston, South Carolina, in its acquisition of a family-owned leader in the wood pallet industry that provides a variety of quality wood products throughout the U.S. and Canada
- Represented a motorcycle dealership in Fairfax, Virginia, in its sale to a large motorcycle dealership group on the U.S. East Coast
- Represented a fleet fueling solutions company in its sale to a leading North American distributor of propane, compressed natural gas, renewable energy and related products and service
- Represented a fast-growing manufacturer of green technology for the life sciences industry in a recapitalization by a Connecticut-based private equity firm that seeks to invest growth capital in innovative healthcare companies
- Represented an award-winning microlearning platform in its sale to a leading software platform provider
- Represented a Richmond-based spice, extract and mayonnaise manufacturer that had been family-owned for 132 years in its sale to a private equity firm
