Overview

Alec Puig is a Miami attorney in Holland & Knight's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. Mr. Puig is experienced in matters involving general and complex commercial and corporate arbitration and litigation as well as corporate internal investigations, compliance and training, and white collar criminal defense, representing both international and domestic clients with a focus on shareholder relations.

In his commercial litigation practice, Mr. Puig has represented clients in cases involving complex contractual disputes, derivative and direct shareholder actions, and efforts to remedy corporate mismanagement and the loss of company assets via fraudulent practices or other malfeasance. In particular, Mr. Puig has successfully investigated and aggressively litigated the reversal of fraudulent transactions in the healthcare industry and in the energy and natural resources industry. Mr. Puig is also experienced in civil and criminal investigations, having completed several large-scale investigations, including the internal investigation of a sizable private equity firm that allegedly operated a Ponzi scheme and engaged in accounting fraud; the private equity firm was subject to various investigations involving multiple criminal and civil federal and state agencies.

As a former teacher, Mr. Puig serves the Miami-Dade community as a member of the Regional Board of Directors for Read to a Child, a program that seeks to improve academic outcomes in underserved school districts by fostering a love of reading in elementary-aged students. Mr. Puig is also a contributing member of the United Way's Education II Council, which fundraises for educational initiatives throughout Miami-Dade County.

During law school, Mr. Puig served as a review editor for the Harvard Latino Law Review and as a training director for the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project. He also served as a board member of the school's La Alianza organization, which was dedicated to advocating and providing support for Harvard Law School's Latino and greater affinity-group communities.
