ABA Business Law Section Spring Meeting
Insurance Industry Team Co-Chair Tom Morante, Corporate Governance Partner James Wing, Healthcare & Life Sciences Partner Clare Ranalli and Aircraft Finance Associate Philip Durham will speak at the ABA Business Law Section Spring Meeting.
Mr. Morante will speak on a panel titled "The Business of Healthcare: An Update on the Development of State-Based Health Care Exchanges." He will focus on the development of state health care exchanges including an analysis of the legal issues surrounding the PPACA, a discussion regarding how states are implementing the exchanges, insight into opportunities for health care insurers and an analysis of how state procurement laws may come into play.
Ms. Ranalli will speak on a panel titled "New and Evolving Threats: The Responsible Corporate Officers Doctrine." Among the topics Ms. Ranalli will cover are the substantial risks facing in-house counsel and corporate executives from the government’s renewed use of the (effectively) strict liability responsible corporate officer doctrine.
Mr. Wing will speak on a panel titled "Protecting the Corporate Director." Mr. Wing will explore indemnification and insurance protections for officers and directors of public and private companies. Our panel will examine areas of risk and the most effective ways for officers and directors to address those risks through careful attention and D&O insurance. A checklist for corporate counsel to use in managing the creation or renewal of a comprehensive executive protection program will be introduced.
Mr. Durham will speak on a panel titled "The Vreeland v. Ferrer Case: Implications on the Liability Protections of Aircraft Lessors."
