What are the Compensation Guidelines for Guardians who are Relatives of Disabled Adults?

Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
Andrew R. Gelman
What determines reasonable compensation, specifically where the guardian of the person or the guardian of the estate is a parent or other relative of a disabled person?  Generally, a guardian of an incompetent or disabled person is entitled to reasonable compensation for services rendered under the Illinois Probate Act (755 ILCS 5/11a 17).  Case law states that the decision as to what constitutes reasonable compensation is determined within the discretion of the probate court and that each such determination is based on facts and circumstances specific to the particular case.
