How Civilian Attorneys Can Help Veterans

Attorney Nicholas Hasenfus, who serves as the Pro Bono Chair of Holland & Knight's Veterans Group, co-authored an article for Law360 focused on how civilian attorneys can serve veterans better. As Veterans Day approaches, Mr. Hasenfus and his co-author identify the main unmet needs of veterans facing housing insecurity. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly every one of those needs is in legal nature. However, veterans who are unable to afford legal assistance end up falling into the justice gap. As a solution, the authors offer a number of pro bono opportunities, including legal clinics, mentorship and training, for attorneys to pursue.
