Key Healthcare Issues That Hinge on the Election Outcome

Law360
Miranda A. Franco

Healthcare policy advisor Miranda Franco authored an article for Law360 exploring how the November elections will affect U.S. health policy and priorities. Although the 2024 election cycle has focused less on healthcare than previous years, the outcomes will still impact a number of fields. Ms. Franco compares the expected approaches of a first-term Harris Administration or second-term Trump Administration to anticompetitive practices and hospital consolidations, Medicare expansion and social security, maternal health, drug pricing and drug shortages, Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage and artificial intelligence (AI), among other areas. She also touches on changes the 119th Congress will bring with new leadership on the House health subcommittee and retirements of physician members, as well as other issues awaiting resolution such as the expiration of ACA premium tax credits and a debt limit decision.
