Weighing Capital Punishment For Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

WGBH News

Litigation Partner Jeremy Sternberg speaks on the case against Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder gave authorization to prosecutors to seek the death penalty, which Mr. Sternberg said was not surprising despite the attorney general only recommending it in a handful of previous cases.

"I was not surprised in this case even though he has publicly said that he personally opposes the death penalty. He has authorized it in some cases, " Sternberg said. "And it seems to me in this case it would have been very very difficult for him given the nature of the crime and the extraordinary number and types of victims."
