Tribes’ Diversity Complicates US Role In Economic Growth

A leader of the National Congress of American Indians recently spoke of the difficulties facing the federal government in its role for providing support to Native American Tribes and their members. The president of the NCAI also called on the federal government to enact legislation that would support tribes in their pursuit of economic growth and securing their land base, among other issues.

Attorney James Meggesto said the organization has the responsibility to speak to broad issues impacting hundreds of federally recognized tribes and American Indians, and “year to year they’ve gotten better focusing in on that, so that the speech hits those high points of policy,” including the organization’s economic ambitions.
