Chemical safety reform passes after ‘perfect storm’
A so-called 'perfect storm' led to Congress voting overwhelmingly to grant the Environmental Protection Agency more authority to regulate chemicals in products. The EPA-fortifying chemical safety bill was sent to the White House and may be Congress's most significant environmental achievement under President Barack Obama's administration.
"I’ve always described TSCA reform as being like a purple unicorn, that rarest of mythical beasts that needs care and protection from all of us to have a chance to survive," said public policy attorney Rich Gold. "The fact that this bill is going to the president is as close to a miracle as I’ll see in my career."
