GCs Swing Into Action As Cos. Hope To Avoid Virus Outbreaks

Partner Paul Bond, a member of Holland & Knight's Cybersecurity Practice Group, was quoted in Law360 advising general counsel to watch for increased malware attacks as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread. He explains that when more employees either stay home sick or work from home, there are more opportunities for cybercriminals to get into devices or infiltrate systems. He especially warns of phishing emails from senders posing as health authorities and urges employees to follow cybersecurity policies to protect their devices.

"Public health events like this just strain the system," Mr. Bond said. "There are fewer people who are doing more work with less time, and there's a human tendency to skip steps."
