Wine Set for Regulatory Shake-Up
Alcohol Beverage attorney Michael Newman was quoted in an article shared on Wine-Searcher.com regarding the Alcohol and Tobacco, Tax and Trade Bureau’s (TTB) plan for promoting competition in the beer, wine and spirits business sector. The TTB previously posted an advance notice of proposed rulemaking encouraging public comment and input to help the agency identify potential areas of concern for producers and consumers. Many responders voiced concerns about implementing more regulations in the already highly regulated industry.
In the article Mr. Newman clarifies, "the concept, as I understand it, behind TTB's rulemaking initiative is both to deregulate where it can and clarify existing regulation rather than add more regulations [of the wine industry]."
