US intensifies enforcement for carbon offsets
Public Policy & Regulation attorney Alex Holtan recently spoke with Financial Times about potential environmental fraud in carbon markets, specifically the increased scrutiny from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in how companies are claiming assets for carbon credits.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if [the CFTC] had at least a handful of ongoing investigations,” Mr. Holtan said. “I would expect that they have at least ongoing information collecting activity from enforcement.”
