Bill Seeks to Grant Days of Mourning for the Loss of Pets

La República
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was quoted in a La República article about a bill in Colombia that seeks to grant workers three days of paid leave following the loss of their pets. Mr. Cuervo expressed his concern about the additional burden this measure would impose on employers and argued that it could further hinder labor formalization in the country. Furthermore, he raised questions about the relevance of the initiative, suggesting that it could lead to an inappropriate equation between animals and human beings.

"In my opinion, the situation that is intended to be regulated today with three working days of bereavement leave for the death of an animal objectifies and seeks the undue humanization of animals," he said.
