A Dismissal Without Just Cause Gives the Worker Right to Receive Compensation
Labor, Employment and Benefits attorney Camilo Cuervo was featured in an article published by Asuntos Legales in which he explains the rights of employees dismissed without a just cause. Mr. Cuervo pointed out that Colombia has a compensation system for unjust dismissals, as well as the opportunity for affected workers to turn to a judge to defend their rights. He also highlighted that there are various reasons for firing employees, which implies their dismissal is subject to an authority, such as the Ministry of Labor or a judge in cases involving union jurisdiction.
"In Colombia there is a system of compensation for unjust dismissals, if there is not a just cause for the dismissal a compensation payment is implicated," he said.
