La República
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by La República about the changes approved in Colombia's House of Representatives affecting the labor reform bill. Mr. Cuervo analyzed the implications of the proposed modifications, including the extension of night shift hours, the increase in surcharges for work on Sundays and holidays, and changes to apprenticeship contracts with the National Learning Service (SENA). He also expressed concern about the potential impact of these measures, especially on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
"Turning apprenticeship contracts into regular employment contracts will discourage companies, especially SMEs, from hiring apprentices, as it will be more convenient for them to pay the fine than to assume their hiring," he said.
