Congress' Dash for Telehealth Extensions: 4 Things to Know
Senior Policy Advisor Miranda Franco was quoted in a Law360 article on the push for telehealth legislation as the political landscape shifts. As Republicans prepare to take control of Congress and the White House, lawmakers are rushing to pass laws to make pandemic-era telehealth extensions permanent before they expire on Dec. 31, 2024. Under those policy changes, Medicare providers have more flexibility to provide telehealth services. Ms. Franco said she's confident Congress will pass the extensions before the end of the year. However, with the tight schedule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will have to work quickly to implement the changes.
"If Congress enacts an extension of Medicare telehealth flexibilities during the lame-duck session, CMS will face tight timelines to implement updates and changes before Jan. 1, 2025," she explained.
