Partner Camilo Cuervo Comments on the Future of Colombia's Labor Reform

Valora Analitik, Infobae

Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Valora Analitik and Infobae about Colombian President Gustavo Petro's announcement that he will call a referendum for the country's labor reform and health system reform. This comes after eight senators filed a motion to archive the bill, which would effectively bury the initiative. Mr. Cuervo commented for Infobae that if the bill fails to pass in the Senate, it will be difficult to revive them because congressmen tend to avoid controversial topics such as labor reforms to maintain good relationships with the business owners financing their campaigns. He also shared his perspective on Petro's decision itself, telling Valora Analitik that the presidente "is bypassing Congress, which in my opinion is an institutional blow because he is replacing Congress in its legislative function."
