Litigation attorney María Paula Zarco was quoted in Asuntos Legales explaining that, in cases of banking key fraud, it is essential to file a report with the authorities, request the blocking of the key, cancel the transaction and reimburse the funds. She added that if the bank does not respond adequately to a formal complaint, the client can file a claim for financial consumer protection with Colombia's federal financial regulator. Ms. Zarco also highlighted that banks are legally required to follow strict security protocols to prevent these crimes and can be held liable for negligence if they do not properly protect their clients' data and transactions, which may result in legal and financial penalties.

"Financial consumers have the right to receive products and services from financial institutions that meet standards of safety and quality," she said.
