Petro’s Public Referendum Would Increase Informal Work and Reduce Employment Quality, According to Experts

Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed in an article published by Caracol Radio about the labor implications of the public referendum proposed by President Gustavo Petro. Mr. Cuervo warned that this initiative could increase labor informality in Colombia, affecting the quality of employment and leading to more workers on the job without access to social security benefits. He also highlighted the negative impact that restrictions such as the prohibition of night work and increased costs for small and medium-sized companies could have.

"A consultation should be to improve, not to worsen. But when you review the questions, it becomes clear that the government is interested in informality," he said.
