The ABC of the New Labor Regime That Is Under Debate to Become a Law

La República

Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by La República about Colombia's labor reform that is about to undergo its fourth debate in the country's Senate, the final step for it to become law. The article described notable provisions in the reform, such as the reduction in the workweek and the restructuring of the night shift and value of overtime hours. Mr. Cuervo commented that negotiations over the workweek were a significant initiative because they create the possibility of working only four days a week to complete the 42 maximum hours. However, he added, Article 165 of the Substantive Labor Code already accounts for this situation.

"This allows for the maximum legal workday as the parties wish to distribute, along as the average does not exceed the maximum hours allowed. I think it is more of a PR issue because that schedule already exists in practice," he said.
