These Are the Countries in Latin America That Have the Highest Number of Work Hours
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was cited in a La República article comparing work weeks in Latin American countries. Beginning June 15, 2025, Colombia's work week will be reduced from 46 hours a week to 44 hours a week, in line with the implementation of Law 2101 or 2021. Mr. Cuervo commented that following this change, the country will have one of the shortest work weeks in the region. He also shared his perspective on the idea of productivity, a question that has been raised amid the reforms.
"Productivity is a concept that, in principle, is doing things in the least amount of time possible. However, studies show that Colombia is a country that works a lot in terms of time but is not necessarily efficient in production," he said.
