Little Time and Lack of Consensus, Main Obstacles for the Revived Labor Reform

Portafolio
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was cited in a Portafolio article discussing the complex situation of Colombia’s labor reform, which was revived and resumed in the Senate’s Fourth Commission after a successful appeal. Mr. Cuervo pointed out that the success of the reform will depend on the level of influence the president can exert over Congress in the coming weeks. Additionally, the article highlighted that legislative fragmentation and a lack of consensus hinder the approval of deep labor changes aimed at reducing informality and protecting workers' rights.

"The fate of the reform will depend on how much the president can pressure Congress this week. If he doesn't manage to spark a social micro explosion, I believe Congress will not allow itself to be pressured," he said.
