Why Family Day Will Disappear in June 2026: The Reason Behind This Change

Caracol Radio
Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed in an article published by Caracol Radio about the elimination of Family Day in Colombia starting in June 2026, as a result of the gradual reduction of the workweek from 48 to 42 hours established by Law 2101 of 2021. Mr. Cuervo explained that while this benefit remains in effect in 2025, it will disappear once the full reduction of hours is achieved, as workers will have more free time for personal and family activities. He also noted that employers must ensure this time off, as failure to do so allows workers to report the issue to the Ministry of Labor.

"If the employer is unable to manage this day, they must allow workers to have this time with their families without affecting their rest days, without prejudice to agreeing on complementary working hours," he said.
