Constitutional Court Returns Pension Reform to Congress: What Does This Mean, and What Remains in Effect in Colombia?

Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Bloomberg Línea about the recent decision by Colombia's Constitutional Court to return the pension reform, Law 2381 of 2024, to Congress for further discussion because of irregularities in its legislative process. Mr. Cuervo described the measure as "a technical pause" rather than a victory for the government, noting that although the reform will not take effect on July 1, it is a small lifeline to correct procedural errors.

"I believe they are postponing the discussion so that the next government will probably have this hot potato," he said.
