"It's a Breather and a Gift Given to the Government": Business Leaders React to Court's Decision to Return the Pension Reform
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by El Heraldo where he explained that following the Constitutional Court's decision to send the pension reform back to the House of Representatives because of procedural irregularities, the entire reform is suspended and none of its provisions are currently in effect. He emphasized that this affects those who were anticipating the July 1, 2025, effective date for their pension transitions, as a new timeline will now depend on further congressional action. Mr. Cuervo also noted that measures such as the express transfer are on hold until both the House and Senate resume debate and reach agreement on the final text.
"The effective date was July 1, but there are already significant effects – for example, people who were counting on that date to complete their transition will no longer be able to use it as a reference point, and will now have to wait for whatever date Congress determines," he said.
