What Will Happen to the Pension Reform? Attorney Explains the Constitucional Court's Decision

El País

Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was featured in an article published by El País about Colombia's pension reform, which was sent back to the House of Representatives by the country's Constitutional Court as a result of procedural flaws in its approval process. The law, which implements a new pension system, was set to take effect July 1, 2025, but is now suspended. Mr. Cuervo pointed out that the process for correcting this error could extend into the next legislative session, meaning it would be debated anew between July 20 and Dec. 16, 2025. He also elaborated on key aspects of the court's decision.

"It is not the entire Congress. The court wants the House of Representatives to give it the fourth and final debate and also extra sessions to eventually fix the procedural flaws that exist," he said.
