California Wants to Build More Homes — It Rolled Back a Landmark Environmental Law to Do So

West Coast Land Use and Environmental Group Leader Jennifer Hernandez was quoted in a Realtor.com article about California's recent rollback of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements aimed at accelerating housing development to address the state's housing crisis. Ms. Hernandez, who led a comprehensive study on CEQA litigation abuse, highlighted the need to update CEQA's litigation rules to prevent its use for non-environmental matters that hinder housing supply and affordability.
"CEQA is one of the well-recognized culprits in California's housing supply and affordability crisis. The need to update CEQA litigation rules to end nonenvironmental abuse of this important California law is stronger than ever," she said.
