Learn About the Changes in Apprenticeship Contracts Under the Labor Reform

Asuntos Legales
Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was mentioned in an Asuntos Legales article about the changes introduced by the labor reform to apprenticeship contracts in Colombia. The publication highlighted that, under the new law, apprentices will now enjoy full employment rights, such as bonuses, severance pay, vacation and pension benefits, marking a significant transformation in their employment status and conditions. Mr. Cuervo explained that these new benefits also mean an increase in costs for companies.

"Before the reform, an apprentice cost around $1.9 million [Colombian pesos], and today this amount rises to more than $2.6 million with all the benefits. Furthermore, if a company has certain collective benefits, the sum could easily be five times higher," he said.
