Environmental Licenses and Illegal Mining Put Colombia's Mining Sector on the Ropes

Mining attorney Estefanny Pardo was cited in an article published by Revista Dinero about the challenges companies in the sector currently face, particularly as a result of illegal mining and regulatory uncertainty surrounding environmental licenses and proposed reforms to the Mining Code. The article explained that the bill has faced resistance from industry groups and communities and that several measures have been attempted through decrees and resolutions, generating legal uncertainty alongside litigation. Ms. Pardo warned that these changes have affected investor confidence and decision-making in the sector.

"Today, we have seen that some of these structural changes have been imposed through irregularly issued decrees and resolutions," she said.
