GSA Halts All Federal Property Disposal During Shutdown

Washington Business Journal

GSA Leasing & Federal Real Estate attorney Gordon Griffin was quoted in a Washington Business Journal article on how the government shutdown is affecting U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) operations. Acting GSA Administrator Michael Rigas told employees in a memo that the agency is pausing activity related to the disposal of federal property during the shutdown, creating a abrupt halt to what had been a steady stream of sales of government real estate. Though questions remain about the shutdown's long-term effects on dispositions, Mr. Griffin noted landlords probably do not need to worry in the immediate future.

"The reality of the timeline for these disposals is so long anyway that I'm not sure another six weeks is going to bother anyone, so I honestly don't know there's going to be too much concern," he said.
