Pension: These Would Be the Changes for Women with the Pension Reform

Labor and Employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Semana Magazine about the Colombian Constitutional Court's forthcoming decision on the country's pension reform, a debate centered on savings, fiscal sustainability and gender equality. Mr. Cuervo pointed to a distinct development: the court's mandate to gradually lower women's required contribution weeks from 1,300 to 1,000 by 2032, intended to remedy gaps linked to earlier retirement ages. He added that the reform chiefly outlines priorities to steer future policy on women's employment, particularly around formalization and hiring.

"What the labor reform does is a declaration of principles regarding the need to create public policies that help formalize women's work and hire women," he said.
