Controversial Deal – News Media Partners with Gambling Company
Litigation and regulatory attorney Johnny ElHachem was interviewed for an article published by the Danish broadcast station TV 2 examining the controversy around U.S. news outlets partnering with Kalshi and integrating prediction market data into news coverage. The article explored concerns about how this type of collaboration could affect public trust and decision-making. It also noted that Kalshi describes itself as a financial trading platform rather than a gambling company, even as several states have challenged that characterization in court. Mr. ElHachem, who co-leads the firm's Gaming Practice, explained that in the U.S., litigation alone does not determine legality.
"It is a legal process that can and should be regulated. When it will happen, I don't know, but that's where we stand right now," he said. "Every time we work with such advanced industries, we face the same concerns and problems: The industry is moving so much faster than the government is able to regulate and respond."
