Holland & Knight Team Will Navigate Arms Trade Regulations
Export controls attorney Christopher Stagg was interviewed by Law360 about Holland & Knight's newly established International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Defense Trade Compliance Team. Created in response to changing rules under ITAR combined with ramped-up enforcement by the U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), the team draws on its members' strong knowledge of defense trade regulations to provide proactive, strategic counsel to help clients address enforcement risks and protect their business interests. Mr. Stagg, who leads the team and who previously served as deputy lead for Export Control Reform at the DDTC responsible for revising the ITAR and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), added that Holland & Knight's lawyers can assist with investigations and disclosures, licensing, compliance programs and consent agreement remediation. He commented on the group's initial priorities and said they would evolve as high-stakes matters continue to arise.
"Our immediate goals are to highlight the increasing opportunities in ITAR defense trade, what this means for industry both now and in the future, and what companies can do to try to shape the ITAR while it goes through upcoming regulatory changes that are expected to expand its scope," he explained.
