Only 4% of Women Live in Economies That Are Close to Full Legal Equality

Mining attorney Estefanny Pardo was interviewed by La República about the findings of the World Bank's Women, Business and the Law 2026 report and the challenges that remain to achieve real economic equality for women in Latin America and Colombia. The article noted that though the region is making progress in legal frameworks and Colombia earned a strong score because of recent reforms, barriers to certain economic activities remain, along with significant gaps in effective public policy implementation and in perceptions of enforcement. Ms. Pardo said one of the main challenges is translating laws into concrete measures that sustainably increase women's participation in the workforce.
"The future of gender-responsive law must focus on closing gaps and must extend across all areas of the economy," she said.
