Co-Ops and Condos United of NY Launches to Establish Advocacy for Homeowners
New York Real Estate Practice Group Leader Stuart Saft was quoted in a New York Real Estate Journal article about the launch of Co-Ops and Condos United of NY, a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to representing the interests of more than 1 million New Yorkers who live in this type of housing. Mr. Saft will serve as an executive member of the organization, which seeks to unite this constituency under one voice to effectively push for policies that protect and support co-op and condo owners, such as renewing the J51-R program and opposing the Cooperative Corporations Law at the state level as well as calling for reforms to Local Law 97 and Local Law 11 at the city level. The inaugural meeting in February emphasized improving communication and bolstering outreach among community leaders to advocate for New York homeowners more effectively and create meaningful change.
"Co-ops and condos have taken a backseat for far too long in the political process in both New York City and New York State," Mr. Saft commented. "Our intention is to provide a unified organization so that we can speak with one voice on the issues that matter most to our communities."
