Government Warns Transportation Companies, Says Drivers Must Receive Wages, Benefits and Full Social Security Coverage
Labor and Employment attorney Diego Acevedo was interviewed by Revista Semana about the joint circular issued by Colombia's Ministries of Transportation and Labor reminding companies in the transportation sector of their labor, contractual and social security obligations to drivers. Mr. Acevedo explained that the measure takes a broader approach by extending compliance not only to transportation companies, but also to cooperatives, logistics operators, vehicle owners and other parties that derive an economic benefit from driver activity. He also noted that the regulation establishes a framework of shared responsibility among those involved in providing the service and strengthens the basis for oversight and potential enforcement by the competent authorities.
