The End of the Current Mining Model? Key Aspects of the Reform Dividing the Sector

Mining attorney Estefanny Pardo was interviewed by Semana magazine about the bill seeking to redefine Colombia's mining model through greater state direction, prior land use planning, new categories of mining areas and mechanisms for formalization and industrialization. The initiative would replace the current Mining Code and raises important questions regarding private investment, environmental protection, formalization of small-scale miners and legal certainty. Estefanny commented on the transformative scope of the proposed restructuring.

"More than a reform, this bill represents a refounding of Colombia's mining model," she said.
