Corporate Transparency: The New Standard for Competing in the Sustainable Economy

Gestión y Negocios

Energy & Natural Resources attorney Inés Elvira Vesga was interviewed by Gestión y Negocios about the growing importance of corporate transparency and environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting as strategic tools that define access to investment, market confidence and business competitiveness. Ms. Vesga explained that sustainability is no longer a voluntary exercise but rather a demand from investors, consumers and regulators for verifiable, comparable and traceable information. She also addressed the risk of greenwashing, role of international standards such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and the importance of external audits to ensure the credibility of reports, advising that profitability and sustainability can no longer be understood as separate objectives.

"If leadership is committed to sustainability and can convey its importance throughout the organization, there will be coherence between strategy and operations, and the CSR report will be the natural result of that effort," she said.
