Rare Earth and Nuclear Energy Development Would Not Begin Until 2032

Energy & Natural Resources attorney Milton Montoya was interviewed by La República about Colombia's prospects for developing rare earth minerals and nuclear energy following the country's memorandum of understanding with the United States on critical minerals. The article reported that Colombia's mineral resources remain largely unexplored and advancing viable projects will require greater geological knowledge, investment and long-term exploration. It also discussed how rare earths and nuclear power could strengthen the country's energy portfolio, expand its role in emerging technologies and create new opportunities for the mining sector. Milton commented on what the agreement between the U.S. and Colombia means for future exploration and production possibilities.

"This memorandum is a declaration of good intentions that, in no way, means the delivery of resources or loss of sovereignty. It is simply a starting point for future actions in terms of cooperation between the two countries in these areas," he said.
