Holland & Knight Announces New Partners

MIAMI – January 10, 2011 – Steven Sonberg, managing partner of Holland & Knight, announced today that 18 attorneys in the firm have been elected to partnership effective January 1, 2011. Fifteen associates and three senior counsel in various offices throughout the firm were elevated. They are:

Boston
Associates elevated to partnership:

Jeffrey Gaulin, a member of the firm's Syndication practice group, focuses his practice on structuring transactions involving the historic rehabilitation tax credit, the new markets tax credit and state tax credits. He received his B.S., cum laude, from Boston College and his J.D. from Boston College Law School.

Matthew Mitchell, a member of the firm's Litigation Section, focuses his practice on employment-related matters, including employment discrimination, sexual harassment, non-competition and confidentiality agreements, wage-hour issues, and family and medical leave. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Brandeis University and his J.D. from Cornell Law School.

Chicago
Associate elevated to partnership:

Troy Hoyt, a member of the firm's Litigation Section, focuses in the areas of commercial litigation and product liability. He received his B.S., magna cum laude, from Arizona State University and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Fort Lauderdale
Associate elevated to partnership:

Allison McCarthy, a member of the firm's Real Estate Section, focuses on real estate development and financing transactions, with an emphasis on hotel and resort projects. She received her B.S., summa cum laude, and MAcc from the University of Florida. McCarthy received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Duke University School of Law.

Los Angeles
Associate elevated to partnership:

Vivian Thoreen, a member of the firm's Business Section, focuses on complex trust, estate, conservatorship and guardianship matters. She received her B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University, and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

Miami
Associates elevated to partnership:

Danielle Price, a member of the firm's Business Section, focuses on corporate law, securities, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. She received her B.S.B.A., cum laude, from the University of Miami and her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.

Gavin Williams, a member of the firm's Real Estate Section, focuses on real estate finance and the acquisition and sale of real estate assets. He received his B.A. from Southern Utah University and his M.A. from the University of Miami. Williams received his J.D., magna cum laude, at University of Miami School of Law.

New York
Associates elevated to partnership:

Marc Antonecchia, a member of the firm's Litigation Section, focuses on commercial, product-liability, and insurance matters involving aircraft, engines and consumer products. He received both his B.A. and M.A. from Fordham University, and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.

Steven Raffaele, a member of the firm's Litigation Section, focuses on litigation of aviation, commercial, product liability, and insurance matters.  He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston University and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.

Orlando
Associates elevated to partnership:

Michael Candes, a member in the firm's Construction Industry practice group, focuses on complex construction litigation. He received his B.S. from Appalachian State University and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.

Monte Starr, a member in the firm's Construction Industry practice group, focuses on complex construction litigation. He received his B.A. from The Ohio State University and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Portland
Associate elevated to partnership:

David Koempel, a member of the firm's Tax Credit Transactions practice group, concentrates his practice in tax and business transactions with an emphasis on real estate syndication, partnership law and private equity financing of partnerships and limited liability companies. He received his M.S.F.S., with honors, from Georgetown University and his J.D., with honors, and a Certificate in Federal Tax Law, from Lewis & Clark, Northwestern School of Law.

Tampa
Senior Counsel elevated to partnership:

Dino Doyle, a member of the firm's Business Section, practices in the areas of securities, mergers and acquisitions and finance. He received both his B.S., with high honors, and M.A. from the University of Florida, and his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Washington, D.C.
Associates elevated to partnership:

Robert Boyd, a member of the firm's Real Estate Section, focuses on all aspects of real estate law, including the acquisition and sale, development and management of, and debt and equity financing for, office, residential, retail and mixed-use properties, as well as substantial experience in all facets of commercial leasing representing both landlords and tenants. He received his B.S. from Trinity College and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Kyrus Freeman, a member of the firm's Real Estate Section, represents clients in numerous aspects of residential, commercial, hotel, and mixed-use real estate developments. As a LEED AP, Freeman also assists clients with legal and policy issues related to sustainable development, including advising on "green" building requirements and compliance methods. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law.

Michael Galano,a member of the firm's Government Section, focuses on federal public law with an emphasis on the legislative process and administrative procedure. He received his B.A. from American University and his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.

Senior Counsel elevated to partnership:

Stephen Jeffries, a member of the firm's Litigation Section, practices in the area of intellectual property, focusing on trademark and domain name matters. He received his B.S. from Wake Forest University and his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law.

Ann-Therese Schmid, a member for the firm's Government Section, practices in the area of transportation public policy and regulation and infrastructure procurement. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Cornell University and her J.D. from Hamline University School of Law.
