Holland & Knight Honored by Lawyers Alliance for New York

NEW YORK – November 16, 2011 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that it is one of only two law firms to receive a 2011 Cornerstone Award from the Lawyers Alliance for New York.  The award recognizes the firm's outstanding pro bono legal services to nonprofit groups that are improving quality of life for low-income New Yorkers.

In announcing the award, the Lawyers Alliance for New York cited Holland & Knight's unwavering commitment to the community as demonstrated by steadily handling a wide array of sophisticated business and transactional law matters, including more than 35 pro bono projects for Lawyers Alliance clients since 2001.  For example, Holland & Knight corporate attorneys assisted the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York with the creation of a Nonprofit Outsourcing Clearinghouse, while its real estate attorneys advised several housing, economic development and educational organizations on office leases and affordable housing projects.  The firm's intellectual property lawyers also have counseled multiple nonprofit organizations about copyright issues and licensing agreements.

"We are proud of our long-standing partnership with the Lawyers Alliance for New York and are honored to have represented so many its clients over the years," said Holland & Knight attorney John Toriello, who serves as the pro bono and community service partner for the New York office.  "On behalf of the many Holland & Knight lawyers who have donated their time and talent to serving those clients, I want to thank the Lawyers Alliance for the opportunity to help ensure that the legal needs of New York nonprofits are met."

The award was presented at a ceremony held last night.  The Lawyers Alliance also bestowed 2011 Cornerstone Awards to nine individual attorneys, selected from almost 1,500 attorneys in its volunteer network.
