Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation Announces Winners of Its Annual Dream Scholarship Essay Contest
The contest honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by encouraging students to reflect on his legacy.
ATLANTA – April 22, 2013 – Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce the top three winners of its annual Dream Scholarship Essay Contest: A Call for Tomorrow's Leaders.
The contest challenges high school seniors in Atlanta, Decatur, Fulton County and DeKalb County Public School systems to examine the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and share their dreams for advancing his legacy of equality and leadership. This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail," students were given a passage from the letter and asked whether or not his words still hold true today.
The winners of the annual Dream Scholarship Essay Contest are:
First Place: Evan Daniels (Stephenson High School)
Second Place: Summer Duffy (Cambridge High School)
Third Place: Chassidy Mitchell (Henry W. Grady High School)
The winners were honored on April 16 at the annual Dream Scholarship Essay Awards Ceremony hosted by Holland & Knight's Atlanta office. Dr. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church was the featured speaker for the ceremony.
The following scholarships were awarded to the winning essayists: 1st Place - $3,000 scholarship, 2nd Place - $2,000 scholarship, and 3rd Place - $1,000 scholarship.
