Holland & Knight Partner Daniel Mateo Selected by the Hispanic National Bar Association as President-Elect

Partners Frances De La Guardia and Juan Alcalá to Serve as Regional Presidents

PHILADELPHIA (September 13, 2022) – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Board of Governors has selected Holland & Knight Partner Daniel Mateo as its next President-Elect. He was sworn in on September 9 during the HNBA/VIA Annual Convention held in Washington, D.C., and he will automatically become the 46th president of the Association in September 2023.

Joining Mr. Mateo on the HNBA board are Holland & Knight Partners Frances De La Guardia and Juan Alcalá, who were sworn in as Regional Presidents.

Mr. Mateo is a long-standing, active member of the association who has held numerous board-level positions with both the HNBA and its sister organization, the HNBA Vision in Action Fund. In addition to the HNBA, Mr. Mateo has been involved with local, state and national bar associations since his time in law school, and has advocated for diversity and inclusion initiatives in each organization. He previously served as President of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey during its 2011-12 term.

At Holland & Knight, Mr. Mateo is a partner in Philadelphia with more than 25 years of experience handling complex litigation and arbitration matters for clients in many industries, including pharmaceutical and other life sciences companies, financial services, telecommunications, software and consumer products.

"I look forward to working with the Board of Governors and helping President Mariana Bravo implement her vision and further the mission of the HNBA."

Ms. De La Guardia is a partner in Holland & Knight's Miami office and will serve as HNBA Regional President for Region VIII (Florida). She practices in the areas of commercial and insurance litigation, including appellate and trial support in both state and federal courts.

Mr. Alcalá is a partner in Holland & Knight's Austin office and will serve as HNBA Regional President for Region XII (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma). Mr. Alcalá, co-chair of Holland & Knight's Energy and Natural Resources Industry Sector Group, focuses his practice on international litigation and arbitration with a particular emphasis on disputes involving Latin America, including matters pending in international tribunals, foreign courts and U.S. courts.
