Overview

Alex Blanchard is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Tysons office. Mr. Blanchard represents clients in complex commercial disputes pending in federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate levels. His distinctive practice also includes handling litigation brought by and against the federal government as well as defending corporations and individuals in white collar criminal investigations.

Mr. Blanchard has significant first-chair trial experience and has managed teams through high-stakes litigation. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where he served as Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, supervising a team of 15 federal prosecutors who investigated a broad range of complex federal felonies. Mr. Blanchard is adept at navigating high-pressure environments and delivering results within demanding timelines. During his nine years as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Blanchard personally led or directly supervised 16 jury trials and three bench trials. He also litigated extensively before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, where he had a perfect record.

Mr. Blanchard, a member of the firm's National Security & Defense Industry Group, has held a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level security clearance.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Blanchard has served as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center since 2022.

Prior to his government service, Mr. Blanchard was a litigation associate with an international law firm based in Washington, D.C., with a particular focus on complex commercial disputes and internal investigations.

After law school, Mr. Blanchard clerked for the Honorable Paul V. Niemeyer of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Honorable Norman K. Moon of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. During law school, Mr. Blanchard was an editor of the Virginia Law Review and received the Rosenbloom Award, which is bestowed by the faculty and recognizes a student who exhibits both academic excellence and collegiality.
