Jessica M. "Jessie" Brown is an attorney in Holland & Knight's Anchorage office and a member of the West Coast Litigation Group. She represents businesses, business owners, municipalities, nonprofit corporations, cruise ships, Alaska Native Corporations, and Alaska Native Tribes on a wide range of litigation and compliance issues in Alaska and California.
Ms. Brown focuses her commercial litigation practice in the areas of professional negligence, employment, antitrust and unfair competition, natural resource, and Indian and Alaska Native law. She has extensive experience in Alaska and California state and federal courts, both in trials and appeals. She recently briefed and presented oral argument on two related appeals on an issue of first impression before the Alaska Supreme Court.
Ms. Brown has also built a successful alcohol licensing practice. As an alcohol licensing attorney, she assists clients to navigate the Alaska and municipal alcohol licensing process, and has successfully shepherded numerous liquor licensing, business and tax matters through various state and municipal agencies. Ms. Brown is the only Alaska attorney registered with the National Association of Alcohol Beverage Attorneys (NAABLA), as well as the National Association of Licensing and Compliance Professionals (NALCP).
Subsequent to receiving her law degree, Ms. Brown clerked for Chief Justice Craig F. Stowers of the Alaska Supreme Court and Judge Susan Y. Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Ms. Brown also served as an adjunct professor of law at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco prior to joining Holland & Knight.
While in law school, Ms. Brown served three semesters as a judicial extern to Associate Justice Ming W. Chin of the Supreme Court of California. She also interned in the French-speaking appellate chamber of Judge Mehmet Güney of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
